Jai Ho
Slumdog Millionaire is a 2008 British drama film directed by Danny Boyle, co-directed by Loveleen Tandan,[2] and written by Simon Beaufoy. It is an adaptation of the Boeke Prize-winning and Commonwealth Writers' Prize-nominated novel Q & A (2005) by Indian author and diplomat Vikas Swarup. The film received the Academy Awards for Best Picture and Best Director, along with six other Academy Awards.
The film opens with a police inspector (Irrfan Khan) in Mumbai, India, interrogating and torturing Jamal Malik (Dev Patel), a former street child from the Dharavi slums. At the opening scene, a title card is presented: "Jamal Malik is one question away from winning 20 Million Rupees. How did he do it? A) He cheated, B) He's lucky, C) He's a genius, D) It is written." At the end of the film, the answer is given. Jamal is a contestant on the Indian version of Who Wants to be a Millionaire (Kaun Banega Crorepati) hosted by Prem Kumar (Anil Kapoor). Jamal has made it to the final question, scheduled for the next day, but the police are now accusing him of cheating, because the other possibilities, that he has a vast knowledge, or that he is very lucky, both seem unlikely.
Jamal then explains that, while at least the question about Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan was very simple, he knew the answers of most questions by chance, because of things that happened in his life. This is conveyed in a series of flashbacks documenting the particulars of his childhood. This includes scenes of him obtaining the autograph of Amitabh Bachchan, the death of his mother during Hindu-Muslim riots in the slums, and how he and his brother Salim (Madhur Mittal) befriended the orphan girl Latika (Freida Pinto). As Jamal's favourite book from his short period in school was The Three Musketeers, he refers to Salim and himself as Athos and Porthos, and Latika as the third Musketeer.
The children are eventually discovered by Maman (Ankur Vikal) while they live in the trash heaps. Maman is a gangster (a fact they do not actually know at the time they meet him) who "collects" street children so that he can ultimately train them to beg for money. Salim is groomed to become a part of Maman’s operation and is asked to bring Jamal to Maman in order to be blinded (which would improve his income potential as a singing beggar). Salim rebels against Maman to protect his brother, and the three children try to escape, but only Salim and Jamal are successful as Salim purposely lets go of Latika's hand as she tries to board a train they are hopping while trying to escape. Latika is re-captured by Maman's organization and raised as a culturally talented prostitute whose virginity will fetch a high price.
The brothers eke out a living, traveling on top of trains, selling goods, pretending to be tour guides at the Taj Mahal, and pickpocketing. Jamal eventually insists that they return to Mumbai since he wishes to locate Latika. When he finds her working as a dancer in a brothel, the brothers attempt to rescue her, but Maman intrudes, and in the resulting conflict Salim draws a gun and kills Maman. Salim then uses the fact that he killed Maman to obtain a job with Javed (Mahesh Manjrekar), a rival crime lord. Salim claims Latika as his own and when Jamal protests, Salim threatens to kill him and Latika intervenes, accepting her fate with Salim and breaking Jamal's heart.
Years later, Jamal has a position as a "chai-wallah" (a boy or young man who serves tea) at a call centre. When he is asked to cover for a co-worker for a couple of minutes, he searches the database for Salim and Latika. He gets in touch with Salim, who has become a high-ranking lieutenant in Javed’s organization and confronts a regretful Salim on tense terms. Salim invites Jamal to live with him and, after following Salim to Javed's house, he sees Latika living there. He talks his way in as the new dishwasher and tries to convince Latika to leave. She rebuffs his advances, but he promises to be at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus railway station every day at five p.m. for her. She tries to discourage him, but on the first day that Jamal waits there, Latika attempts to rendezvous with him, but is recaptured by Salim and Javed's men. One of the men then slashes her cheek with a knife, scarring her as Salim drives off.
Jamal again loses contact with Latika when Javed moves to another house. In another attempt to find Latika, Jamal tries out for the popular game show because he knows that she will be watching. He makes it to the final question, despite the hostile attitude of the host who feeds Jamal a wrong answer during a break. At the end of the show, Jamal has one question left to win 20 million, or two crore, rupees and is taken into police custody, where he is tortured as the police attempt to learn how Jamal, a simple "slumdog," could know the answers to so many questions. After Jamal tells his whole story, explaining how his life experiences coincidentally enabled him to know the answer to each question, the police inspector calls his explanation "bizarrely plausible" and allows Jamal to return to the show for the final question. At Javed's safehouse, Latika watches the news coverage of Jamal's miraculous run on the show. Salim gives Latika his phone, and the keys to his car, and urges her to run away. When Jamal uses his Phone-A-Friend lifeline to call Salim, Latika answers his phone and they reconnect. She does not know the answer to the final question either, but believing that "it is written," Jamal guesses the correct answer (Aramis) to the question of the one Musketeer whose name they never learned, and wins the grand prize. Simultaneously, Salim is discovered to have helped Latika escape and allows himself to be killed in a bathtub full of money after shooting and killing Javed. Salim's last words are "God is great." Later that night, Jamal and Latika meet at the railway station and they share a kiss. It is then revealed that the correct answer to the opening question is: D) it is written. Along with many others in the train station, they dance.

Bravo A.R.Rehman
The story of SDM without any doubt is very good and appealing to human emotions. We have had so many Indian film makers who have attempted successfully to decipher these emotional entreaties through various creations before, be it commercial or off-beat. However, the major difference lies between SDM and our films of similar genre, is as to who it is targeting, the kind of audiences and also a kick-off platforms (finances and marketing). The real crux lies in the kind of exposure that film is getting. There is no split in the opinion that we have incredible talent in our country, but we don’t have a platform to showcase our talent to the world (and thanks to poverty stricken image that we have achieved through western productions…and now it sems we are stuck with it). So it looks like as if we are “qualified” for sympathy rather than recognition for the time being. Nothing to panic about, we are slowly advancing to get that kind of break we deserve. SLM gave us a chance to grab some attention no doubt there….so now there is no harm in celebrating the victory of our actors from Mumbai to begin with. Any start is a good start.
The only aspect that bothered me personally is when people other than the Indians looked at the ugliness of our country and beckon the entire country to be like one, in such pre-image it would be predominantly difficult for our film makers to build on this attention we are getting and in making the rest of world to understand the true spirit of our great nation. There are so many magnificent things about our country to highlight, like our culture, hospitability, humanity, festivals embraced in the long run keeping the human relationships in mind, facility system, respect, forgiveness, cultural understanding, adoption of best of the two worlds-admirable blend, technological advancement despite the shackles of traditions, adoption of modern amenities etc. Any true talented film maker can weave-in these aspect marvelously and show-case it to the world. Why do we need sympathy for our cultural dogmas (that were far left behind- Water) and poverty (SDM)? Should we be so naïve in thinking that the rest of world would only see the zeal of Jamal for Latika and that they will ignore the cinematography in general? Why can’t we understand that when world see us like a country plagued by poverty and un-education, and felicitates us/ film depicting our image as one, is totally unacceptable, whether Academy Award or not. What are we celebrating about?? The television channels through out India proudly declared and praised how those slum-actors were treated with love and dignity, well, I myself would show care for poor, unfortunate or diseased person, so what’s the big deal in it….are they going to open up their Malibu mansions to party with them. Everything that happens on the red carpet is for cameras and news papers. I am sure so many people will disagree with me…particularly those who swear by their admiration for SDM. I am looking at it from a different perspective…may be from an angle that would affect us in the long term.
A.R. Rehman, you justly stood by our real conviction about love over hate…we are so proud of you not for the Oscar (because your talent cannot be weigh-in by any awards…you truly don’t need one), but for representing our true spirit. That’s what we truly need, to show to the rest of the world our true spirit, bravo!! We need such people…who make most out of the given opportunity not for personal benefit but for the betterment of humanity and nation, that’s called representing your country. That is the niche we can carve for ourselves, different from others in this outstanding display of talent, competition, and aggressive world.

We stand tall in culture
That's the cultural difference. Perception of a mother in any culture co-depends on individual independence, understanding and interference. We have yet to reach that point where we can crack at those jokes. We haven't completely outcasted our mother from our private life. A.R. showed he is still not there yet. That's what we need to stand out.

We stand tall in (Ghost) culture ??
Should the means to achieve good ends be always good? Except the rank materialists, the Charvakas, the founders of all other systems of Indian thought boldly declare that "one should not adopt a foul means to achieve a desired end, however covetable that end may be". There should not be any doubt regarding this point. While I empathize with your trouble and suffering, I do not agree with your theory - of blame-other forces much above their actual positions. That sort of belief is in contradiction to the true theory of reasoning. Your reply suggesting that you know the facts very well but somehow want to divert others by your silly methods being a gross representation of other Mumbaikars. Your statements leads to draw the conclusion that counter questioning of ‘why you are not helping yourself for the evil act of Mumbaikars’, a simple way of releasing the responsibility of any kind. If you understand, I referred earlier, nature of crime and criminal personality often clashes on account of complicated levels of misconceptions and tries to evade in the initial confession. In simple words, it is only after the criminal realizes that there is no alternative which can save him from the crime, he reveals the truth and confesses completely but in the process he tries every trick of book to appear as an innocent, by lying, by blaming others etc. You are counter claiming that every city has atrocities. Instead of showing the good side or correcting their mistakes, they want to make ‘all-wrong all-common’ solution. In which city other than Mumbai, you will find the ghost terror ? Yes, this is what proud Mumbaikars now need very badly so that every city should follow their evil activities. The mind, intellect and reason fail when you are under the power of an intoxicant. When anesthesia is given, where is the logical mind? Does the logical mind function when you have fasted fully for a fortnight? It disappears in sleep and swoon. There are some herbs that incapacitate the mind the moment you take them. Thus, there are many occasions when the logical mind of man becomes impotent and stops functioning. Sometimes, under the influence of mass criminal psychology, it is difficult to even realize what is right or wrong for a common man. Flowing water with force without borders of limitation, can cause destruction. By using black magic, ghost terror etc., you cannot be able to live a happy married life. Instead, you need to adopt fair means of approaching directly/indirectly. If you are already rejected, then it is not correct that you resort to evil tricks. Today, you will find more women than men, approaching black magicians to get (back) their love by any means (vashikaran). We come across so many possessed persons living near dargas/Temples in Mumbai under the complete control of ghosts. They cannot even express their problems due to their helplessness. They are banned to live in our civilized society. Still their enemies do not spare them because of ulterior motives. If they complain, it does not mean that they are glorifying their past (suffering). In our day-to-day life, we meet so many persons with different beliefs, different backgrounds, different kindness etc. Everybody is different in his own way. We cannot force you to believe the dharma, you have to understand it by experiencing yourself now or later. Most of Mumbaikars do not know what is wrong. Ghost terror is a bad example created by Mumbaikars to show the world how masses can harm a single man under the influence of pride and ego. So what the terrorism is all about ? Spying activities are common in superpower nations as well as developing countries on the basis that suits the needs of the countries to cope with rivalry exist with other nations or technology secretes. Initiating spying activities is common and part of war tactic to enable the army to get the vital information to attack the enemy even though it is quite risky for any spy who can loose his life if caught in the enemies territory. These spies are given the training to combat any situation that they encounter including the commando’s training and handling of high-tech weapons. It is suicidal to be a spy and caught by enemy assuming that their own army would reject their identity to be safe on the par with the code of war conduct approved internationally. In the past too there were many cases of spy capturing on Indian soil and it is not new to any nation who has wide range of interest to be protected from the borders surrounded by other countries not necessarily the enemies. Attack of 26/11 could be the result of spying activities of highest level whereby the spying activities were completely commissioned with subsequent follow-up of the attack or the spying with the attack on the resistance. Recently Pakistan claimed that they have captured few spies from India and they are investigating. When an onion is peeled of layer after layer, in search of source of smell, we reach the empty inside. That means the smell was with the onion, the outer layers and not inside. In the ultimate sense, words do not explain the truth. But they give a hint by which one can know truth directly in experience. Words have a relative value and they must be made use of, though they do not constitute our real aim. Relative obstructions to the knowledge can be removed through relative means and thus the truth can be experienced. I am familiar with the common reaction of good and generous people that certain truth - whenever exposed - is rejected on the ground that they are easy to understand, and talk, but impossible to accept. The end result is…

Greek
I was walking on road in Andheri. Suddenly I saw a man in twenties walking ahead of me with many sounds surrounded by. I too heard the sound of ghosts telling about this man. They were telling bad things about him and telling me to repeat it. It was a true experience of many ghosts around a single man. I followed him. Many people came and repeated ghosts words. Then he said 'why you listen to ghosts?' but people did not respond.
That man new that people are bad mouthing him by using the ghosts but could not do anything. I went near him and asked him about these ghosts. He told me the true story and I was shocked to hear it. It was the people of Mumbai who casted ghost spells on him during the time of his marriage in order to ban his marriage. Later, when nothing was gained and he did not die, they continued but he came to know about the ghosts spells. It was a very a cruel story of what people of Mumbai can do. Entire city was against him to hide the evil actity. He visited many places for deliverance but people are not willing to set him free. Such ghost horror is rarest of any kind and never ever happened.
As I started walking along with him, people pushed me deliberately to be away from him and threatened without any reason. I was shocked and asked them whether it is correct. He replied 'This is Mumbai, anything happens".
